Description
* It has been reported that container ship, MISSISSIPPI (IMO: 9954187), experienced the loss overboard of approximately 67 containers whilst berthed at Long Beach, California, United States, on 09 September 2025 shortly after arriving safely at the port.
* Reports indicate that at least two container stacks have partially collapsed; one at the aft of the vessel and a second container stack midships, forward of the accommodation block.
* Some of the containers fell into the water to the starboard side of the vessel whilst others fell onto a service barge moored alongside the vessel and others fell from the port side of the vessel onto the pier.
* We understand that efforts are underway to retrieve the containers that have fallen overboard. In addition to the containers damaged as a result of falling overboard, some containers have collapsed or have been damaged in the affected stacks, but remain on board the vessel.
* There are unconfirmed reports that the vessel may have experienced a list to starboard at the time of the incident. The US Coast Guard is reported to be investigating the cause of the incident.
* It is likely that loss or damage and recovery issues will arise as a result of this casualty, should you insure any cargo and require our assistance we look forward to hearing from you accordingly.
